What is hijama?

Cupping therapy, also known as hijama, is an ancient therapeutic practice that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. This technique stimulates blood flow, reduces muscle tension and helps the body eliminate toxins.

Used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese, Arabic and Egyptian medicine, cupping therapy is experiencing renewed interest today thanks to its recognised benefits for overall health. It is particularly effective for treating chronic pain, improving sports recovery and supporting general well-being.

Two main techniques

  • Dry cupping: Suction only, with no incisions. Ideal for stimulating circulation and relaxing the muscles.
  • Hijama (wet cupping): Traditional technique using micro-incisions for deep detoxification and the removal of stagnant blood.

Our cupping therapy sessions are carried out by a qualified nurse, following strict hygiene standards in a medical practice. Every treatment is tailored to the patient's needs and health condition. Our treatments are exclusively for women.

Benefits of hijama and cupping

Discover how this ancient practice can improve your health and everyday well-being.

Pain relief

Naturally reduces muscle, joint and chronic pain. Many patients report significant relief from the very first cupping session.

Improved circulation

Stimulates blood flow, oxygenates the tissues and supports the body's natural healing. The suction of the cups activates microcirculation in the treated areas.

Stress reduction

Promotes deep relaxation, reduces anxiety and improves mental well-being. Hijama helps release built-up tension in the back, shoulders and neck.

Detoxification

Helps eliminate toxins and purifies the blood for better overall health. Wet hijama is particularly recommended to support the removal of metabolic waste.

Sports recovery

Speeds up muscle recovery after exercise and improves athletic performance. Dry cupping reduces soreness and supports tissue regeneration.

Overall well-being

Improves sleep quality, strengthens the immune system and boosts vital energy. Regular practice contributes to better physical and emotional balance.

The benefits of cupping therapy have been recognised for centuries. Whether you suffer from chronic pain, muscle tension or simply want to enhance your overall well-being, this ancient technique offers a natural and gentle way to care for your health.

The characteristic circular marks from cupping therapy usually fade within 3 to 7 days, sometimes up to 10 days depending on the person and the intensity of the treatment. These marks are a normal part of the therapeutic process and are not painful.

It depends on your condition. Some people feel relief from the very first session. For chronic issues, 3 to 6 sessions spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart may be recommended. During the initial consultation, we'll agree on a tailored treatment plan together. Learn more about how to integrate hijama into a holistic approach to well-being.

Come well hydrated, avoid heavy meals in the 3 hours before the session, and wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the areas to be treated. It's also recommended to avoid caffeine before the session and to plan some rest afterwards.

It's recommended to avoid intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours after the session so your body can fully benefit from the treatment. Prioritise rest, good hydration and light activities. You can gradually return to your usual sports routine afterwards.
